I only put my money in lowering market prices of 3 or 4 random companies.
What do you mean by lowering market prices of 3 or 4 random companies? What actions exactly have you taken on this?
Actually, as soon as i saw "boom" or "expansion" in business information, I invested all my money, and in 3 months I had +25% or even +38%. I just had to sell it, and build another falling star.

I don't think with other ways you can make so much money in so little time.
Well, this is somehow like the real life. You can profit from a booming stock market, and even more so on stock market bubbles.

In the real life, it is also possible that the stocks you have sold may rise again and make new record highs, in another boom-bust-cycle. If that turns out to be the case, you might have sold the stock a bit too earlier and haven't maximized your profit.

In fact, this is what makes the new Cap Lab interesting - more opportunities and ways to reap profits from the capital market. But the nominated value of your cash does not indicate its true purchasing power because of inflation. So while a player may be happy with increased cash over time, taking into account of inflation, in the net purchasing power term, the player's wealth might actually have decreased.

FYI, you may check out this page about boom-bust-cycle at: http://www.capitalismlab.com/enhanced-m ... ation.html

In the real life, we all wonder why many hard working people do not make as much money as traders and speculators. In fact, it could be true that a lot of money is made during some time windows of opportunities which only last for a short period of time, and only a small percentage of people could take advantages of that. The vast majority of people will have to rely on the old, honest way of earning money with their time and labor. Isn't this true? If you think it is true, then Cap Lab has taken one step closer in simulating the real world. :)

Sorry if i was misunderstood, I'm not a native english-speaker :)

I selected 3 or 4 companies which saw their market price reduced in the last 12 months, just by looking at their recent evolution.

Then I looked at their activity. MOST OF THEM were investing in appartments or commercial buildings (because, perhaps, the return on investment is much slower than industry ?).
I will have a look at it and test it, but it seems that people investing in real estate looses most of their market value at the beginning of their investment.

But the problem is that i KNEW their market price would be growing again very soon, as commercial buildings are very costly at the beginning, and very profitable after.

I bought 3, 4% of these companies. And it worked. After 2 or 3 months, i sold them and had a 30% return on it.

Of course, IRL it works the same way. But IRL most investors would actually do the same than me, and then the market price would rise at the moment you buy appartments (or even and more probably when you buy the lands to build them). That's why it's so hard to make money on the stock markets, because informations are coming to everybody at the same time. IRL markets don't rise because you make money, they rise because people think you will make money.

There are many factors affecting their stock prices. You may test more games and let us know if it always happens this way, so much so that it is highly predictably and profits can be made consistently without risk-taking.

Something I noticed is that for some stocks, their day-today price graph is weird. It's always seems that they are falling today, even if actually this downing-trend is moving day after day.

Is that normal ?

PS : I have sent you my savegame with a little test/bug, that's why i think the % of "profit" in stockmarket was so huge

You may observe over a longer period of time (20-50 years). It could be normal as the companies are investing and not yet generating any profits in the first 10-20 years.

It's not a problem of profit or the game itself. It's just a problem of display.

A strange thing, but i'm already after 35 years of playing, and the stock markets are quite quiet. Nobody has bought stocks from other firms. And the "independant" players (persons who are not linked to a company) have 0 cash and doesn't do anything with it (obviously !)

I can't give me a salary via the headquarter.
Each time I give me a wage of XXX, it's getting reseted each month.

So if i give myself 5M per month, i will have 5M at the end of the month..and then 0 at the beginning of the following month.
