Not global economic trends

Post by Esoteric Rogue »

I suggest that each city should have it's own prosperity cycle.

So, I only noticed recently that the Economic growth/recession cycle affects all cities simultaneously. I think that is undesirable and unrealistic. Having never played with macroeco on in my personal games, I now realize this is why I always failed miserably in challenge games: every city in a recession at the same time. I had thought it was simply bad luck that all 4 cities went down at the same time, but now realize it's by design. (At least now that I know to expect that and I'll be prepared next time.)

Each city having it's own state of prosperity gives you a strategic choice that you should develop something in different cites so that when you suffer depression in one city, it may be mitigated by the boom in another. Frankly, without this opportunity for choice I don't know what the purpose of simulating the prosperity cycle is.

I was slightly disappointed at this as well but like the fact that there are economic cycles and inflation (I probably will never play inverse inflation).

This actually seems like a bug to me. Cap 2 has differing economies - see the Boomtown scenario.

I thought Cap 2 did that's why I was so surprised. It was cool because one market would be down but my other market would be booming. They really need to make each city unique. How can Pittsburgh & Moscow have the same economic cycle.

David, can it be made so that different cities are on different prosperity/depression cycles?

I stand by my earlier statement:

Just curious, after all these years, and with the new city simulation expansion pack along with banking mechanism in play, would the independent economic cycle for different cities be part of the new features? This sort of make sense financially if we would have local bank beaches offering different interest rates.
