Currently in Capitalism Lab, hotels are implemented merely as a type of service firm.
This limits gameplay depth and realism. In reality, hotels are complex businesses generating value not only from room bookings but also from food & beverage outlets, retail shops, amenities, and entertainment.
The current game system:
- Does not allow hotel buildings to lease or host other business types like shopping malls
- Lacks key hotel-level services such as breakfast, valet parking, or pools
- Simplifies profitability and operational strategy, reducing realism
1. Make Hotels a Separate Industry Type
Hotels should become a standalone industry (like Retail or Manufacturing), using large-scale plots comparable to Shopping Malls.
2. Modular Interior Structure
Hotels should support the addition of internal business units or facilities, including:
- F&B Units: Fast Food, Pizza Restaurant, Luxury Restaurant
- Retail Units: Convenience Store, Supermarket, Department Store
- Amenity Modules: Swimming Pool, Breakfast Service, Valet Parking, Gym
- Cultural/Entertainment Options: Cinema, Casino, Bookstore
- Operated directly by the player, OR
- Rented to third-party firms (leveraging existing tenant system)
3. Strategic Customization
Players can configure hotel layout:
→ Choose how much space is allocated to F&B, Retail, Amenities, or Rooms
→ Decide between leasing units or operating them internally for synergy and higher margin
4. Gameplay Depth and Realism
This system allows players to:
- Increase guest satisfaction with amenities
- Diversify income streams beyond rooms
- Balance risk and management complexity through leasing vs. owning decisions

This proposal builds on existing mechanics (mall tenant system, modular buildings, synergy bonuses) and would significantly expand Capitalism Lab’s hotel management realism without requiring entirely new systems.
