Suggestion: Establishing subsidiaries and market segments

Post by kazenorin »

As we all no, there's no way to perform any market segmentation in capitalism 2. It doesn't make sense that we always have to dominate the market with all high quality, well branded products (or the vice versa, but that's not usually the case in the game).

I understand that it might be a hard to manage different quality levels at different prices for different products, how about doing that through AI-controlled "subsidiaries" ?

In one game of mine, I virtually took over another company (owned like 80% equity). That company was one of my competitors in the Computer hardware industry. They were selling products at a way lower cost than my products, and in fact they purchased my very high quality electronic components. I didn't want to merger. All worked out well. That company was like my subsidiary, just that I had little or no control on what they do.

I've read that CapLab might contain lots of "smaller" companies that will compete with the player.
Why not take one more step ahead?

What if players are allowed to establish fully owned subsidiaries, then set goals and strategies for these strategies, like focusing on a certain range of products, which market segment target, etc. And as well as choosing which technologies and its level for the subsidiaries?

In this way, players can segment their products through subsidiaries, without the pain to manage them.

Would this be possible?

I've been thinking the same thing. Would be really good if we could.

It should be possible to sell out parts of your company and stuff like that. Some people may want to play the game as almighty CEOs, but to me it would be more satisfying to be able to manage a portofolio of companies. in any case, this all depends on how well the AI works in the end.

You may check out discussions about company divisions at the following thread, which I think is related to what you suggested.
