Option to Move time forward in increments and auto-pause (pseudo turn-based)

Post by Mrskinny »

I'd love to see how the game plays if you had a setting that sort of made it like a turn-based experience, e.g.:

- Time naturally sits in paused state
- Player presses key and simulation moves forward 30-days (can be user-defined) at max speed
- Game immediately auto-pauses again

This would be like hitting the "End Turn" button and committing the player to making decisions/adjustments and then seeing how those panned out at the next decision point.

This is how I end up playing mostly but it's annoying having to manually keep adjusting speed when I'm really aiming for that cadence.

I don't think this would be technically possible using the current engine. Currently if you set it to max speed then that is just about as fast it will go. It is not really possible to 'Skip' like that.

But there is a feature coming out soon that can help speed things up by skipping frames:

Thanks for replying! It's not about getting beyond the "max speed," it's just about having a button that's like an automated script which does the following:

1. Set speed to Max until a specific date (e.g. 30 days in future)
2. Set Pause State

It might seem minor, but it both reduces the repetition of speeding up / pausing manually, and it would make the game feel more inline with turn-based strategy titles like Civ.
