Ability to disable media & real estate firm acquisition
I'd really appreciate the ability do disable the purchasing or construction of media and real estate firms, especially as media in particular seems to offer outsized returns compared to other businesses, in spite of the devs' best efforts at balancing it out. Whichever company picks up the media firms first seems to be the one swimming in cash, with very little logistical challenge associated with it. I can't seem to resist being the one to buy them. It's either I buy it or a competitor winds up with the money printer, and I can't have that! But once it's on the books and I'm printing $15+ million a month, all the other industries feel downright paltry by comparison, and hardly worth the effort.

I think it is a good idea to have a script line for disabling the sales of certain firm types such as Media or Real Estate or even to disable selling firms altogether. Especially since firms sales can be also be used as a loophole to get around the current scripts that disable certain firm types from being built by players.mrmanganese wrote: Tue Aug 12, 2025 6:24 pm I'd really appreciate the ability do disable the purchasing or construction of media and real estate firms, especially as media in particular seems to offer outsized returns compared to other businesses, in spite of the devs' best efforts at balancing it out. Re: Ability to disable media & real estate firm acquisition
I tested a game and bought a couple media firms from the government. I didn’t find the returns on my investment excessively high. The P/E of the TV firm at the purchase price was around 15.
How much did you pay for the media firm that generated you $15+ million a month?
If the acquisition price was too low, I think we could suggest to the dev team for increasing the prices of media firms that the government asks for.

Usually what I do is build my own facility, set the ad cost really low to steal market share, and max spend to raise the quality. Eventually I buy out the government firm and shut down one of them.David wrote: Thu Aug 14, 2025 11:14 am I tested a game and bought a couple media firms from the government. It's been a while since I played - I think I may be misremembering, it may have been $15 mil a year instead of monthly. I have all the difficulty settings set to maximum, so that's still a ton of money for very little effort. Maybe it only feels like the profits are outsized because the other industries make it so hard to eke out a profit. Either way, it would be nice to be able to disable media.
