I'm trying to understand the purpose of how to use product customization beyond interesting ways to make my product line look fancier. Based on what is mentioned below
"Effects on Gameplay
By utilizing product customization, you can release two or more products of the same product type into the market. Each of them will have their own demand and supply.
For example, your company may sell two motorcycle products with different product images and different technology levels at the same time, targeting at different segments of the market.
The motorcycle product with a lower price and less advanced technology (thus lower quality) will appeal better to consumers who are more price conscious.
On the other hand, the motorcycle product with a higher price and more advanced technology (thus higher quality) will appeal better to consumers who are more quality conscious."
Does this mean that the two customized products divide up the total product demand for that product in product details page and will make it easier for me to capture market segments that my current product may not be optimal for? Like if my tech is poor I can focus on price with a customization, but once my tech is good I can focus on quality and raise prices?
Is it just a method to extract better profit margins on price conscious goods? or is it a method to artificially expand the demand of a product? Example, there is 110 million product demand in a custom script scenario I play with 10 cities of 5M population for bottled beer, will product customization allow me to increase demand to be higher than it is right now?
I'm not really understanding what product customization is meant to achieve or how it can be used as part of a strategy.
I'm hoping I can do something like make a product class I have high tech for, able to expand the demand of that class so if its a small revenue due to low demand (say 50M a month, I can grow it to 100-200M making better use of the quality/tech I have).
