Error on File : ilib\File.cpp Line : 291

Post by jcofey »

I'm using the 5.7.10 Release

Steps to recreate crash:

Load saved game.
Create factory.
Click on Layout Plan Library inside the newly created factory
Select the folder containing the "User-defined" layout plans.
Click Sort.
When the window pops up that says "The layout plans in this folder have been sorted by their descriptions," clicking OK produces the error in the screenshot.

I have attached the save game, screenshot, and the file that is in the Gameset folder.

I tested it with the files you provided but didn't get any errors.

I asked the programmer and was told that the error indicated that there were problems writing to your file 1STD.PLO in your harddisk, which is likely to be a Windows file issue. Please check if the file is read only and if your harddisk is full.

You may test it with the following method:
1) Run the game
2) When the game is running, delete 1STD.PLO from our harddisk. (Backup the file before deleting it.)
3) Click the [Sort] button on Layout Plan Library.

Thank you for the help. Since you pointed at this being a Windows file issue, I did some further research and I found the following link:

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/ ... 431097455/

It turns out the problem was Microsoft Onedrive. It changes the directory tree of the "My Games" folder by inserting Onedrive early on in the directory tree.

C:\Users\my-user-name\Documents vs C:\Users\my-user-name\OneDrive\Documents

Somehow this was making the game crash with the error above.

Fix:
I made a backup of the My Games directory. Then I removed the "My Games" folder from the Onedrive directory by going into Settings of the Onedrive app and going to "Choose Folders". This led to the "My Games" directory being deleted from "Documents" folder. I recopied the backup folder of "My Games" back where it was in "Documents" folder and the game is now running smoothly. I am assuming Onedrive kept backing up the file as it was being changed and that led to the file being locked at times and caused the game to crash.

The error just happened again and lost a lot of progress since my last saved game.

This is frustrating. I can't figure out what is causing the Windows file issue.
