bug: media firms not being valued correctly

Post by klasanov »

so here I am, on phase 4 out of 5 of my nation's economy domination plan, where I create a subsidiary to buy up the government's media services. Schweet? except that I bought the firm for $300m large (which is a good deal considering the CPI is only 131). I did this by creating the firm with $200m cash and borrowed $100m against it.

Aside from this reducing my wealth immensely (which I very much care about, as I am a billionaire in this game), it also causes an issue in that it can crash the game if the stock price goes any lower. My stock price is valued at ten cents a share. Granted the media firm is profitable so I should be ok (I think, if I'm reading it correctly), and I am generating wealth in other ways also, but I don't think it makes sense that the price I paid for is not reflected in the assets.

I am running v4.2.05. I can provide the save game if someone tells me where it is stored in windows 10 (running cap lab post beta release)

But the bookkeeper only recorded value of $10m for the asset, leaving the comoany in the hole.

David has a standard reply, but I'll help, the save game folder is at
C:\Users\<your user name>\Documents\My Games\Capitalism Lab Post-Release Beta\SAVE
The save file name depends on your character name, and it shows on the right in the save game screen.

You will need to compress the save game into zip file to be able to upload and attached in the post.

Thanks.

Will try to upload later.

Is there a way i can edit my save file to reflect the balance sheet properly in the mean time? I am soon to become govenor of 6 cities and aim to control the media. That is billions in wealth i want to have reflected for my game, but is a sink unfortunately under the current game conditions. Its not game breaking (unless your assets go negative and cause a crash in stock.cpp) just annoying

What do you meant edit the save file? Just use screen capture to show the financial statements or simply when you upload the save file, we can all see what's wrong or what's really going on in the balance sheet.

This is a save just before the media firm is bought. Pravda Media Services is the subsidiary I want to have to buy this. It will need to borrow money.

Anyway when this happens, its income statement reflects an increase in asset value but the balance sheet does not, indicating a loss of wealth rather than a transferrance of in the game. Also cash just gets "lost" it seems on the balance sheet.

Are you sure this is the right save? I didn't see a subsidiary called Pravda Media Services, and I didn't see any media firm up for sale.

Maybe trhis is one before icstarted the media firm. I can look again tonight as in at work currently, but, would you be willing to use that save to create a subsidiary, transfer $200m into it, and borrow $150m off of it, and then transfer a government media firm over to it, and see what the balance sheet and income statements look like after?

That is what i did, and then wealth dropped 300m for me because it isnt recognizing the firms value.

I never put the firm up for sale because i didnt have to. My party had a mayor in that city so he can transfer at fair market value to private corps

I build a new media firm with one the subsidiaries, and it looks normal. Perhaps its only a problem with on-sale meida transfer from a city to a subsidiary.

I use your save, and almost copy exactly the original setup showed in your screenshot, down to the name, CEO, city, the media firm, etc. And it all looks normal in my save.

I found where the issue is. If using the "normal" procedure of clicking a media "For Sale" and clicking "Buy" (in the red circle) using the parent company's cash and then transfer to the subsidiary, the assets in subsidiary firm will be correct. But when directly transferring a media from a city, using the "Relocate, Demolish, or Transfer tool" (in the white circle) to the subsidiary, the balance sheet will only have a base media firm cost as assets value.

I've set everything up properly in this save, only needed to click the button.
