How does political support work?

Just started with the new dlc. I made a beverage company, and i formed a political party.

My beverage corp is now (marginally) profitable and i know oce i get the tech and brand game going it will be a hit. How do i gain support and win the elections so that i can become mayor and privatize the apartments?

Donate to your party during election year, and have more campaign funds than the running opponents. Usually take more than 20,000,000, and probably more (without inflation, or under inverse inflation, with inflation it takes even more later on). The higher the current mayor's approval rating, the more funds needed to defeat her/him (unless their party run out of funds).
