I have spent a lot of time playing Capitalism 2, and thinking about what makes a realistic - yet fun Business Sim...
One thing that has struck me is that it would add a lot of dynamics to the game play is if the population were broken down to different income levels. Those on the low end of the income scale would buy the cheaper products, middle income could afford most products, and high income can only afford the best. This would basically be paired with the property values in different areas of a city.
For example in the beginning of the game I could work my way towards producing/selling low end cars, which would sell best where there are low property values.
As I progress in the game I would be making a higher end model, which would affect my decision on location to sell these.
I would also like to keep producing a low end model to sell in the low income areas, as there is profit there as well.
Low income people would buy left often, and spend less, but there is a large group of people to make your profit.
Rich people would buy more often, and spend more, but there are a lot less people in this "class"
This would apply from all products from bread to cars. For example a grocery store on the edge on middle class/upper income could sell both middle and top grade bread to 2 different audiences. (taking 2 item slots to sell 2 types of bread)
Also you could add some separate luxury items to produce and sell... These will sell good with high profit margin when the economy is good, but when the economy declines the luxury item sales would suffer.
Maybe I'm thinking too hard into this, or getting too complicated, but I think it would add many levels to the game. I see the lines of code being well worth the time.
Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Suggestion: Differing Population Income Levels
It's a good idea but Personally I think it adds a social elemnet to a game thats more about Business rather than the civs that live within it. It would be great to have different ways of selling to different peoples dependendant on there social order, allowing for different content to be sold but that would make it a very deep game. Tropico was a game that springs to mind, when I read the thread.
