Intangible Asset: Technology
The company Balance Sheet now has a new asset item called “Intangible Asset: Technology”
This gives the tech company a fair market value and allows it to raise funds for continued R&D efforts via issuing new issues.
How the value of Intangible Asset: Technology is determined:
Part A)
If the company possesses a technology equal to or higher than the current top technology on the market (as seen on the “Top Tech.” column on the Corporate Detail Report – Technology page), then the calculation is as follows:
Value of Intangible Asset: Technology = <a constant amount> x (The company’s tech level – top tech) / top tech
Part B)
For new inventions that have not yet been introduced to the market as products:
Value of Intangible Asset: Technology = <a constant amount> x (number of years it takes to invent the product using a single R&D unit).
These values will decline or vanish when other companies also started selling products using the new technology.

I like the intangible asset concept! I may have missed this somewhere else in the forum... but are there going to be more items that will need to researched before companies can start to manufacture them?
I had some ideas for new products:
What if in the Automobile category we had several types of vehicles like: Trucks, Sedans, Hatchbacks, Crossovers, SUVs, Compacts, etc. The market could be set with just the "Car" which is probably a Sedan and then add the capability of adding those other products.
It would be nice to add Produce in the Food category and also add to the end products: How about growing Bananas, Oranges, Apples, Cranberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Tomatos... etc. One could not only sell these by themselves but also make breakfast bars, cereals, muffins, and juices.
For Beverages, are we able to add more colas, beer, and energy drinks (maybe energy drinks can be a "new product"). Maybe vitamin waters and sports drinks can also be added (also researched as new products).
For Milk, can we add cheeses, yogurts, and creamers.
What about coffee... Almost every town in America has a coffee stand and Folgers says that their coffee is the best part of waking up. Can we enable coffee chains. Maybe enable the construction of a "roaster" which then can provide several prominent flavors like "Breakfast Blend" , "French Roast", "Dark Roast", etc.
How about Pizza? One can make a factory and/or a store that takes bread, cheese, tomatos, and beef and make pizzas.
Electronics- Coffee Makes, Toasters, Steamers, Tablets, Portable Music Players, Washers, Dryers, Refridgerators, Dish Washers, Trash Compactors, Vacuum Cleaners, etc.
Furniture- Tables, Book Shelves, TV Stands, Night Stands, Dressers.
Anyway, these are just ideas. It would be to expand the amount of items if possible. Maybe its an idea for a potential Capitalism III.

Hi David,
When will be possible to trade Intangible Asset: Brand Name? How about keep the brand's rating of the company, when we buy it as like as google buy youTube.

It is normal in real R&D projects - depending somewhat on the product being researched - that the end result is unpredictable. In the game the target tech rating has been 100% predictable. There could be a 25% random variation to either direction plus a tiny chance (0.5% for example) to each R&D project to fail completely or to multiply the amount of actual 'target advancement' by five or so (not the target tech rating, or else the tech rating will multiply by a huge amount when it already was high before research was conducted). I think I have mentioned this before on the list of ideas I made.
The player should not be able to exploit the small chance of a big breakthrough by starting many small projects. The above example takes care of that.
Such breakthroughs happen in real life - a short research can bring some unexpected innovation.
I've become too nerdy - had to fine-tune this simple suggestion 15 minutes. As I've done before.

New Feature: Technology Disruption
There is a new option called “Technology Disruption” on the new game setting menu. When it is enabled, technology disruption occurs constantly and all technology variables decrease by 10% every year.

Improved mechanism on the R&D Progress
For research and development projects in R&D centers, increases in numeric values of technologies will be higher, when the Top Technology on the market is higher than 100.
This will address the issue where R&D improvements will barely make any significant impacts on the product quality when the Top Technology has reached a very high value.

There is already a random event of technology breakthrough in the original Capitalism 2.
When this happens the research in progress will complete instantly and the resulting tech will be 20-60 points higher than the original target tech.
You may increase the Random Event frequency on the new game settings to make this more apparent.
--------------
Regarding your suggestion of the 25% randomness, it is an interesting one. We have thought about it but it seems that when companies keep doing R&D constantly, the benefits and penalties of the 25% random will offset each other and at the end, it won't make any significance difference to the competition in the long run.

Does the Part A in the first post mean that a tech does not have a market value if it's not at least equal to current top tech? Then a company focusing to RD has to wait until much progress has been achieved before being able to sell anything.

Dear David,
To make the game more funny, I suggest to add some mini-game into Capitalism Lab.
First of all, the value of technology breakthrough is based on the result of mini game performance.
1) Add a game spot call "University"
2) Click the building, we can pay a reseach fee to University (say $100,000) and choice a technology to conduct a joint hand R&D process.
3) This R&D process is a puzzle game to re-combine a picture, for example, an engine / cake.
4) We should do it under 25 second to re-combine 25 pieces puzzles, the pictures are the component of engine / procedure to make cake.
5) If we have CTO, he will complete 4 corner for us.
6) And then the time will be counted down until finish.
7) At the end, you can combine a functional engine / cook a delicious cake. How many second you left, the value of technology breakthrough will be the same number x a factor. If the puzzle game fail to complete, the value is zero.
If any player do not like to play the game, it will not affect the R&D operation. It is suggested to make more interactive with player, and give them a small knowledge of the production process or component of product. And make Fun only.
