I find that some 3 input factories in the library have weird pre-defined default layout. Like smartphone, camcorder, video game consoles, etc. Mostly electronic products. Is there a reason to link manufacturing units together?

The link between the manufacturing units is not necessary and has no effect. But it won't negatively affect them either.

That's why I think it's weird, it doesn't seem to have any purpose, and as default layout this might confuse new players, since some 3 inputs have this link, and some don't.

(who check the default layout when designing the library system anyway )

No one, clearly, as since Cap 2 some of the default layouts have issues in them like that

Well, since it doesn't have effect functionality, I guess it wasn't high on the to-do list. There used to be a weird linking bug with wildcard pre-defined layout, and it got fixed pretty quick.
