I would suggest that inflation couldn't be that high and wouldn't vary a whole lot. Certainly there are cities in the world where goods are much more expensive than in other places but that usually applies to differences between countries, not too much between different cities in same country.

If leather bags cost thousands on average because of inflation with mediocre quality, local competitors included, it won't be an US town for example, or else it's unrealistic.

The interesting thing is that it only an annual inflation rate of 5.6-5.7% to get to the above result (over 570% inflation in 33 years).

And it is not impossible to have such an annual rate inflation rate, considering the historical US inflation rate in the past 50 years or so.

The complex economics option can be disabled though, to allow for games with no inflation.
