german/european writing style of numbers

Is it possible to change the style in which large numbers are displayed? Currently the US-style is used for example as 1,234.56 but I would prefer the german/euro euro style as 1.234,56 where the comma is used to separate the decimal values and the full-stop is used to indicate steps of 1000 Thanks!
