I also have random crashouts, usually when selecting products to purchase for stores or factories. They're sometimes reproduceable, and sometimes not.
I'm also playing on XP service pack 3.

I am playing on V2.0 
I mean the occasional, random CTD mentioned by the OP appears to still be an issue for some systems even in the latest build. I'll see if I can catch a savegame, but since it's random it's not easy - sometimes it's replicable, sometimes not.
