Hmm, i remember trying it by buying it with the parent corp and then transferring it over and still having a hit to wealth. I think the issue was it set my parent corp's balance sheet off.
Will look into it again and have parent corp buy then transfer over (really nice thig about low debt/high assets)

Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
When you transfer or sell the media to the parent company from the city government, and then "transfer" to the subsidiary, the subsidiary balance sheet will be fine, but the parent company's business assets will lose the real value of the media (307m), but only gain the base building value of 10m (a net lost close to 300m)klasanov wrote:Hmm, i remember trying it by buying it with the parent corp and then transferring it over and still having a hit to wealth. Also if I let the game run for a while, this error would happen after several months. Don't know if it's related to this issue or not. (I build 3 extra media firms instead of purchasing one from the city, the balance sheet seems to work fine with newly built media)

When the parent company buys the firm, it will have the real value reflected on the balance sheet, or no? Im ok doing it this way as long as it keeps ghe books correct
Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
No, the parent company's business assets will have a net loss equal to (real value - base value), regardless how it got the media (on-sale or transfer). The first one who get the firm from the city will always have this issue, but those down the line after the first transfer will be fine.klasanov wrote:eleaza wrote:When you transfer or sell the media to the parent company from the city government, and then "transfer" to the subsidiary, the subsidiary balance sheet will be fine, but the parent company's business assets will lose the real value of the media (307m), but only gain the base building value of 10m (a net lost close to 300m)klasanov wrote:Hmm, i remember trying it by buying it with the parent corp and then transferring it over and still having a hit to wealth. Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
So this is indeed a bug and acquiring media firms will indeed erode my total value?
I segregate my corporation using subsidiaries but otherwise consider it all the same company really (just different divisions and people who are running it). Is there a work around to this? Not to mention because the loan market is tied to my assets

Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
Mainly waiting for the patch I guess, or just build new media instead of purchasing existing ones. Or only buy those when there's surplus in cash. Or simply have too many assets to care.klasanov wrote:So this is indeed a bug and acquiring media firms will indeed erode my total value?

What if i had a throw away corp buy then transfer? And the close the throw away corp as it runs out of funds? Is this possible?
As long as i keep making smart investments i shouldnt have "too much money to care". Lol. A bil is but small pennies compared to wanting to lead a nation's economy

Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
So I spent some time messing around with this and I noticed something. If I use a public corp to transfer the firm to, and then transfer it to the private firm, the value of my corporations are fine. If I take the media corp public, and buy the firm, the value of my corporations is ok, because it is able to "float" its value on the market. Although I imagine it will certainly deflate over time to match its assets.

Re: bug: media firms not being valued correctly
I also got the stock who_filter bug also. Not sure whats causing it. I used a throw away sub and had it go bankrupt. It still took the wealth out.
If a patch comes i to address this will my old saves be compatible?
