...And I mean the legal kind
Since vanilla C2, my favourite strategy has always been to eventually move into drug products due to their high necessity index, similar requirements (plastics and minerals) and, most importantly, high technological dependency which means that as long as I have a tech lead I can pretty much penetrate any market I please. I would set up 4 R&D's, research for 3 years then become the world's drug baron.
I have 2 questions for this:
-Were drugs just simply too powerful in C2? Not only are they good due to the aforementioned benefits, I've also noticed that people just seem to buy more drugs and often my drug stores were making more money than car stores, electronics and furniture.
-Is this strategy still viable in C2Lab? Cough Syrup now annoyingly requires Syrup (), but when I tried it last night I seem to make just as much money.

Re: Drug Money
drugs still make money, but I believe at least 3x lower then cap 2. total market is a lot lower (like 1/3 of old drug market) and brand is capped to 100, so you cant charge 25$ for a cold pill anymore
if you want a similar thing to do, you can go and take expert product class: toy.
Then r&d for handheld game consoles and video game consoles. it feels like these two makes a lot more money then they do in cap 2.
frozen meats and eggs profit better then they do in cap 2 too.

Re: Drug Money
Drugs have always been my favorite product category too since manufacturing is pretty easy once chemical materials are available and there is high demand. Plus quality is not dependent upon livestock or crops like leather. Still I always go for leather products first due to capital constraints early on and then move on to drugs. It probably was too powerful in capitalism 2, but it's still really good because household products (toilet cleaner, etc.) and cosmetics require the same inputs. You can expand into 3 product categories with chemical materials and plastics/glass. That will always make it very lucrative to go into the drugs/cosmetics/household products line.
