Our experience using Capitalism Lab

Post by Meiaman »

Hello. Since we are using Capitalism Lab for educational purposes, it is fitting to move this topic and any future entries to here

As i posted previously, this experiment is happening at Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brazil. Prof. L. Murakami is leading the "business creation" classes, where the game is being applied. Classes varies between 40 to 50 students.

We are also using Cap Lab Challenge System to provide live feedback about the results of each student.

The next semester will have the game application around later may/june.

This is our outputs so far:

What works with the game
The game put each students in a context of decision making, where they need to use their planning skills and analytical ability to make the best decisions possible. It is a good way to spark interest about strategic decision making.

What does not work with the game.
The game does not have much in specialist content, so do not expect it to teach your students about marketing, finances, product theories; however it is quite possible to link the game content to specific theories, but as a way to demonstrate how they could work, instead of teaching them about it. Not recommended for very specialized classes.

We are still aiming to connect the game with business theories. PDCA is one of the easiest to demonstrate how to work with.
